This was probably much more an exercise in creating interesting backgrounds than painting a flower. Indeed the flower was an afterthought.

A Confession…

I’m sure there’s something to be said for containment, about not sharing your work too early or too indiscriminately – especially for beginning artists or ‘recovering’ artists. But I think too that being open to feedback and criticism is a creative muscle and the only way you develop that muscle is by putting yourself in situations where you can receive feedback.

Painting: Self-Portrait (Cartoon Happiness)

I’m painting myself here again in part because I like the idea of using myself as a symbol within my own work. Good Taste And The Gap

March 10, 2010

Ira Glass, host of This American Life, talks in terms of good taste – that passion and understanding you have of your artform – and the gap between that good taste, that thing that you aspire to, and your current abilities.

Creativity Is Still A Process

October 10, 2009

I’ve been a fan of Kate Bush for some time now. For some reason over the last three days I’ve been particularly fascinated by her work, watching documentaries and music videos and interviews with her. The thing that I found interesting was the way music commentators described her as being a ‘fully-formed’ artist from her musical debut.
