I deleted my old account to start a new one and i am also unable to Hide any of my friends apps in my newsfeed. When I first hit HIDE it disappears but as soon as i come back to the newsfeed again they are back. They do not appear in my edit options. I am going to try the advice you have given above but it does seem unfortunate to have to add the apps in order to hide them.
thanks for your advice tho as i have not been able to find anything else about it.

Hi Anya,

I just tried to hide application notifications with the new Facebook layout (specifically with an application called God Wants You To Know) with the method described above and it worked for me.

It might also be worthwhile when people invite you to add an application that you’re not interested in using to actually ‘block’ the application instead of just ignoring the invitation.

With the latest version of FB, I’m not getting the option to ‘hide’ applications anymore. All the farm, mafia, etc. apps that I had hidden are showing up again, and now when I click hide, I only have the option to hide the person completely. Am I missing something?

To the best of my knowledge those notifications were put into the news feed even before the new Facebook layout. As far as I know there is no way to currently hide those notifications… Sorry!

With the new FB news feed (Feb 2010) I’m seeing new crap in News Feed. Not apps/games but things like “Brenda ______ is now friends with Brian _______.” Or “Brenda commented on xxyy’s photo.” Or “Jim _______ commented on xxyy’s status.” I never saw those things before and don’t want them now. I have not found a way to remove those kinds of notifications other than removing Brenda and Jim (and any other friend) COMPLETELY from my news feed, which I don’t want to do. Mainly I just want to see what my friends post on their walls. Is it possible?
