I hopped on the NaNo bandwagon this year for the first time. Thinking about motivations, this is what I come up with. I am doing this not because I have nothing to do (ask Cindy - she'll tell you I'm insane), but because I have a hard time backing down from a challenge. And while this one is not specific to me, per se, it is still the ultimate challenge in writing. To be able to write a novel (beginning, middle, end) in 30 days is like the brass ring. So- here I sit pulling out my notes, getting in gear, and waiting to open the file at midnight tonight on my NaNo project.

Best of Luck to everyone on completing your 50,000 words this month. and John, this was a fabulous post. Thanks for the nudge on motivation!

I am rooting for you to pull this off John, and Jman too. This will be my second NaNo. Did it in 2005 and it was the best feeling ever to finish. You're on the right track with your thinking that its all about getting the words on page, not about perfection. My first NaNo book eventually got me an agent! It is so worth it to do this. Good luck to all of us.

This year will also be my first year participating in NaNoWriMo. I'm doing it for basically the same reasons you are, I just want to be able to actually write an entire novel, even if it is a piece of crap.

NaNo is going to be my way to just write for writings sake so that everything else I want to write can benefit.

I've never really worked on anything of this magnitude before, so I'm really interested to see if I can handle it. It might be difficult, especially seeing as I'll have exams / assignments galore for November as it's Term 4.

We'll see how it goes...
