I’ve always been fascinated by watercolour sketching. It seems like a form of magic, and I couldn’t begin to imagine how people pull it off. And the more I dabble with watercolours the more I realise it’s more about the water than the paint itself, you are in a very literal sense painting with water. It’s all about knowing which edges to blur and which edges to leave hard. It’s about using more water and less water to make areas lighter and darker. You have to suggest things rather than depict them. It’s an intriguing practice.
